The series premiered on the platform on October 9. The original Netflix production portrays the experiences of Cameron Cope (Miles Heizer), a gay teenager who is bullied at school and finds acceptance within his group of fellow recruits.
“Boots” is set in the 1990s and depicts the era of the “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy, which prohibited openly LGBT Americans from serving in the U.S. Armed Forces. The policy remained in effect from 1993 to 2011.

Despite being widely praised and receiving a 90% positive rating on Rotten Tomatoes, “Boots” was called “woke garbage” by Kingsley Wilson, the Pentagon’s press secretary.
Wilson said that military authorities “will not compromise our standards to satisfy an ideological agenda, unlike Netflix, whose leadership consistently produces and feeds woke garbage to its audience and to children”.
According to the New York Post, neither Netflix nor the Pentagon responded to requests for comment regarding the cancellation.
